Camping at Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania, May 2024
Ricketts Glen State Park, located in northeastern Pennsylvania, is renowned for breathtaking natural beauty and an extensive network of trails that showcases the park's 24 named waterfalls. The Falls Trail, the park's most famous hike, offers a challenging yet rewarding experience as it winds through rocky terrain, allowing visitors to experience the majestic cascades up close.
The Adventure - Be prepared to hike along the Falls Trail. Some sections are wet and muddy with steep stair steps.
The Ordeal - Our griddle's grease catcher was left out overnight and attacked by something.
Tips - Try going in the shoulder season when it is less crowded and after a heavy rain with the falls in full glory.
We spent two full days at Ricketts Glen in May 2024. We camped in site 135 with full hook-ups. Heavy rains the week before we arrived meant that a great volume of water was flowing over the falls. The scene was awe-inspiring and intense.
We like our Blackstone

Noisy neighbors
We are enjoying all the traveling and adventure but it's nice to spend some time relaxing and enjoying nature.
Day 1
The big attraction at Ricketts Glen is the 7.2-mile Falls Trail. With a 1000-foot elevation change the trail can be steep and slippery.
Day 2
We went off the beaten path and hiked Mountain Springs Trail, Little Cherry Run, and Cherry Run Trail. This route forms a loop passing by the old Lake Leigh Dam and runs along a small but pristine creek, Cherry Run. The Cherry Run Trail has few people and the creek is very charming. It is a beautiful and much quieter hike to take on a second day after the main falls.
