Laurel Hill State Park with day trips to Fallingwater and Pittsburgh, June 2024
Laurel Hill State Park, nestled in the scenic Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, offers a serene escape with 4,000 acres of lush forests, rolling hills, and the tranquil Laurel Hill Lake. Located conveniently near Fallingwater, the iconic house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the park provides an ideal base for exploring this architectural masterpiece. The park is also a short drive from Pittsburgh, allowing visitors to enjoy natural beauty and outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, boating, and swimming, alongside the vibrant cultural and historical attractions. Laurel Hill State Park is a perfect destination to experience the best of Pennsylvania's natural landscapes and rich architectural heritage, while still being close to urban amenities.
The Adventure - Mixing rural and urban travel.
The Ordeal - The Incline in Pittsburgh was being used as a movie location. We went down but got stuck in the station with the film crew for over an hour. This was an unplanned delay in our schedule. But we saw Randall Park filming Fresh Off the Boat!
Tips - Be prepared to rearrange your itinerary and make the best of it. Traffic and parking are always a problem in any city. Know where parking is located close to your destination. Get your timed tickets for Fallingwater in advance and check if Kentuck Knob is open to the public during your visit. Ensure you have a current boat registration sticker on kayaks and paddle boards before using them at PA state parks.
